Twenty-three years ago, Junichi and three close classmates buried a handgun used in a certain incident beneath the cherry tree at their elementary school. They shared a secret they could tell no one, but as time passed, each went their separate paths…
Now a detective, Junichi returns to his hometown police station, where he is assigned to investigate a murder case. There, he reunites with one of the friends who shared that secret—his first love, Makiko Iwamoto—but this time as detective and suspect. Moreover, the murder weapon is the very same gun the four of them buried. Through the investigation, Junichi once again encounters his former friends.
Who dug up that gun? Who is the true culprit behind the murder? The sin they thought they had buried twenty-three years ago resurfaces, crossing time to change their lives forever…

Ryoko was raised by her father since her mother died when she was young. She possessed an outstanding talent and gained vast knowledge of the law by attending court hearings, and managed to pass the bar exam on her first try while she was in high school.
Fast forward to 2024. On a whim she decides to work as a lawyer and joins a firm. As a game lover, she treats court cases like a game, and winning as a matter of course. She will use any means necessary to win, even if she must stray from traditional wisdom or confront her opponent with truths they might not want to face. She takes on many of society’s most pressing issues, such as harassment, discrimination and reproductive medicine, and comes up with her own unique answers.
Unlike others, she doesn’t overlook the gray areas in the law. She can see the flickers of emotion in others and connect the dots by always maintaining her composure. Through her keen insights and observations, she can clearly see the whole picture that eludes others.
This is the story of a “monster” who doesn’t look away from the monstrous nature of people, and always gets results.
